Frequently asked questions.

What is couples counseling?

Whether you call it couples counseling, marriage therapy or relationship therapy, it’s a time to talk about the relationship and any problems occurring within it, your underlying feelings about the relationship, and what a better relationship might look like for you. Couples counseling is NOT how to decide who is right or wrong within the situation. Your counselor will not be “choosing sides” of a conflict.

How does virtual couples counseling work?

Similar to a Zoom or FaceTime meeting, you will join the online session to a HIPAA-compliant platform using your PC or mobile device. The virtual platform supports couples who may be joining from different physical locations. Many couples find it easier to fit counseling into their busy lives when they can join from the convenience of their own home- or wherever they may be!

Will couples counseling help me?

Yes- but success within a relationship looks different for every couple. This is what the process of couples counseling will help identify.

How do I know if we need couples counseling?

If your relationship is causing you stress, couples counseling could be right for you. Some couples seek help because of a singular issue (infidelity, a bad argument, life transitions) but other couples are just looking to be happier. If you are looking for peace within your relationship, now is the right time to start couples counseling. Couples counseling does not have to be a last resort.

Who is successful in couples therapy?

Couples who are willing to be open and honest during sessions and put in the work outside of sessions will benefit the most from couples therapy. Since therapy sessions typically only a few hours a month, it is crucial for couples to put into practice the things discussed during session.
